the BLOG: beautiful LIGHT. amazing LOVE. sweet LIFE.
This family was such a joy to work with- April found me on VarageSale, of all places, and we met at Buck Creek on a beautiful sunny afternoon for their first family session in years (so relatable, right?). I feel that I would be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to issue a PSA (public service announcement, not the other lol) regarding family photos. Speaking from my own experience as a mom, it's stressful to wrangle a group of kids (or 1), coordinate outfits, comb hair, and get your mascara on without blinking and getting that second set of lashes on your eyelid lol. We get that. If you go tell your kids, "Hey guys, it's time to get dressed and go take pictures, who's in?" and everyone raises their hand in the air and you hear echos shouting "me too! me too- you are the best mom EVER!", you have probably dozed on the couch and will awaken with drool trickling down the side of your cheek and your 4 year old screaming for a snack. Ok, maybe that's a realistic hyperbolic example, but you get the picture. What I would like to say is that despite the craziness, one day you will be so glad you took those pictures. I recommend yearly pictures for all families- kids grow and change so much from one year to the next! So what to do about the stress? Call me, of course! We like to have fun at our sessions, and choosing a photographer who has experience with children helps immensely. As we prepare for your session, I can address any concerns you have and suggest some ways to alleviate that all too familiar anxiety.
April and Chris, thank you so much for choosing us to photograph your beautiful family! Caleb, Jacob, Isaac, and Emily, you guys were so much fun and you kept your parents in line for us ;-) I hope you enjoy your images!!
We had so much fun with this lovely couple from the first time we met them at Panera Bread. After getting rained out for our original date, we had beautiful weather the next day for their session, and the owner of Rockhurst Farms was just wonderful to work with us! Shawna and Cole, you guys look great and were so awesome- we really enjoyed your session and can't wait for your big day and wedding pictures beneath the oak!
I have to start this post by saying what a sweet couple these two are. We so enjoyed working with them and appreciate the privilege of documenting this special time in their lives! Miraj and Mehro found me on Facebook (shout out to Mark Zuckerburg) and we met at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for their session. The weather and flowers were beautiful, but not as beautiful as Mehro! Take a look at their photos and I think you will agree! I can't wait to photograph their newborn son this week- Congratulations, Miraj and Mehro!!!
I have loved photographing Mulberry CDO for the last 8 years with my sister, Kelly. Not only do we get to have a fun girls' trip doing something we love, but we have watched a couple of generations of precious children grow up and move on to Kindergarten. (I feel old.) There will be more to come from our 2 days photographing this sweet preschool, but I just had to share this little guy with you. I think you can see the reason for the title of this post, and in my humble opinion its a lesson to all of us. Be who you are, have some fun, be silly, and let your light shine!

My daughter, Moriah, introduced me to her friend KC a few months ago. KC, a budding photographer herself, wanted to observe a session so instead I suggested that she be the subject and she was all for it! As photographers, we forget what it's like to be in FRONT of the lens and it's good for us to be in our clients' shoes from time to time. Plus, I always wanted to shoot downtown and KC loves urban settings. A win-win! The weather was perfect, even with the rain rolling in toward the end, and Moriah came along and scouted out some beautiful locations for us- thanks, Mo! KC, you are a beautiful young woman and I wish you the best in your photography AND your future!!
